I just got the Up to Eleven email.
TILLY AND THE WALL!
SUNDAY JULY 16!
THE BOTTLENECK!
LAWRENCE, KS!
Tickets are $8 + $1 building charge + $3.80 ticketmaster gonna rape you in the ass fee.
the only problem it's the exact same night as Peaches at the Granada. I fucking hate Peaches, except for the "Fuck the Pain Away" song, but I've watched video and it looks like one hell of a show.
I'll be at Tilly and the Wall. Who's coming with?
Posted by Courtney at 11:16 PM | Comments (0)Thom Yorke's The Eraser could be the best album released this year.
It's coming July 11.
Trust me on this one. And if you won't trust me at least trust Pitchfork.
Posted by Courtney at 12:01 AM | Comments (2)Last night I drank a cup of decaf green tea while I was doing laundry before bed. Bad bad bad idea. It messed up my sleeping the same way regular green tea did the first day. I just rolled over every 15-20 minutes during the night and never felt like I was truly asleep even though I woke up perfectly refreshed. Of course I followed it up with 4 cups of green tea throughout the day.
In the Mobile Sims front one of my current wants is to divorce my lesbian wife for Ben. I'm not ready to let her go yet, dammit!
It rained so I couldn't go for my walk/jog/hide from the foxes like normal, which was okay because the place I normally walked has had some weird ecological fuck up that caused all the fish to die in the pond. It had a growing smell of horrible the past week and the cement was getting to me anyways. I ended up finally using that gym membership I got at the beginning of the month. I had to get out and do something because I always reward myself with a diet cherry limeade, and I really fucking wanted a diet cherry limeade tonight. I've gotten myself wired to think now that I have to exert some energy or the carhops will refuse to serve me.
Now, if you don't mind, I'm gonna go dig out my cherry and go to sleep.
Posted by Courtney at 11:34 PM | Comments (0)Spent all day in Lawrence with the Romes. Mad Greek, X3, Cotton Candy, Sylas and Maddys, Mel Brooks movies and tapas.
I downloaded Sims 2 for my phone. Yes. Sims mobile is really gay, but I had fun with my Sim, Naomi. By the way, within 30 minutes of me starting the game Naomi had already gotten married to Penny, the girl she's using to get the hookup on a job as a chef. Apparently my Sims are from Massachusetts. I had Naomi ask Ben to "sleep over" and then immediately ask Penny to "sleep over."
If only it had an "ask Ben and Penny to sleep over" options, I might play more often.
96.5 has their shuffle weekend this weekend. As we were turning onto 119th on our way back tonight they started playing my favorite song, "Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns" by Mother Love Bone. Keaton came inside when we parked to relieve himself, but I stayed in my seat singing along until it ended. There has never been a better way to end a day.

Posted by Courtney's Phone at 12:24 PM | Comments (1)I remember, shortly after I finally succumbed to the power of the Chipotle burrito, Keaton and I ventured to the 135th and Metcalf location for lunch.
I had been wearing my "I like girls." t shirt that a bunch of us created in high school and hadn't really thought anything of it. I was holding Keaton's hand as we were walking up and we passed by two girls who were obviously from around the area with their perfect 16 year old blonde looks. I remember as soon as they saw my shirt how they stopped and looked at me and started giggling and then whispering to each other as they walked on. That instant moment of shock on their faces is something I won't forget. I was just amazed that it wasn't sedated slightly by the fact that I was a) with my boyfriend, b) being visually affectionate with said boyfriend, and c) my boyfriend is very visibly very male.
Reminds me of the first time I wore the shirt and Sarah Drywater freaked out and looked at me and immediately said "NO YOU DO NOT LIKE GIRLS." The shirt could have never had another meaning than the obvious to her. She assumed I was not like her and instead of making any other claim, she just stated that I could not be different. It was a crucial moment in my defiance of Christianity. And all it was was a show of support and love. I wasn't trying to make any great statement, and I wasn't trying to out myself. I was just being there for my sis when she was being tormented by everyone else. Sam was worth all of it.
I just threw around a stack of white tshirts to try and find something old that can get a little dirty, looking in particular for my already stained high school graduation party shirt. In the middle I found a present from my 21st birthday, an "I love lesbians" shirt.
I thought about wearing it outside for a moment, but then I remembered I lived in Kansas.
Posted by Courtney at 07:28 PM | Comments (2)I don't know why people choose drugs when they could just be like me and drink green tea.
I woke up this morning from about a 30 minute nap (and 6.5 hours of just tossing and turning) more refreshed than I've ever been.
Maybe I should switch to decaf, cause I am still so not tired.

Record Bar.
No Mathmatics.

Posted by Courtney at 02:25 PM | Comments (0)It really didn't make sense just to leave this unresolved.
It's not hard to go the distance when you finally get involved.
Bleh. I smell like Windex and molded strawberries. Keaton's filling in for one of his friends at work today in Lawrence so I'm getting down to scrubbing the nasty shit in the kitchen.
We went and saw Da Vinci Code last night at 6:30 and I was entertained. We're the last 2 people left in America who haven't read the book, so I have no complaints. I seem to understand that the purpose of fiction and the purpose of the cinema to entertain. Being entertained for the 2.5 hours I was there I would consider it a success.
I will say that the preview for World Trade Center that ran before it had me crying.
Keaton and I were both starving by the time the movie was over so I went and had a horrible grilled chicken caesar salad at 810 Zone and watched the first half of the Spurs / Mavericks game. I want to marry Dirk Nowitzki. For some ungodly reason I had the bright idea to go buy a movie at the Wal*Mart at 135th and State Line then go home and watch that.
Since last night was date night, that means tonight is sit at home and watch movies together with take out night, which means sushi for Courtney. Yum.
God, the less of it I try to eat, the more I think about food. Stupid 40lbs overweight.
Posted by Courtney at 03:34 PM | Comments (5)I have no idea why I want to go camping. For the past two nights my walks in the heart of Johnson County have included run ins with bats, rabbits, snakes, mice (dead and alive), and a couple small foxes. Not even a quarter mile off Metcalf even!
By the way, if you've got hair like mine it's impossible to take a walk in Lenexa. The wind just seems so much crappier out there where you suddenly go from strip mall to farm land.
Posted by Courtney at 10:23 PM | Comments (0)I'm going to make a bold statement.
Minus the Bears' Highly Refined Pirates is the second best cd I have ever owned.
1. Pearl Jam - Vitalogy
2. Minus the Bear - Highly Refined Pirates
3. Radiohead - The Bends
4. The Roots - Things Fall Apart
5. The Clash - London Calling
6. Daft Punk - Discovery
7. Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary
8. Goldfrapp - Black Cherry
9. Orbital - 2
10. Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
The admission that the cd as a whole is good enough has unfortunately bumped the three way tie long held by Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville, Soundgarden's Superunknown, and Red Hot Chili Pepper's Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik from the list.
I'm sure you all have extreme opinions of disagreement. Even I'm struggling with the fact that there are better compiled albums out there than The Singles Soundtrack.

create your own visited states map.
It's interesting to see how I've branched out in the last year. Only 6 new states added, dammit. Colorado has to be added on soon.
And in the spirit of travel, the lyrics to my 2nd favorite song.
Hey, let's cross the sea and get some culture.
Red wine with every meal and absinthe after dinner.
We'd look good side by side walking back to the hotel
We've got to get something to eat and to drink yeah,
and find a place to stay that's not far off the main way-
we've got to plan our day: Rodin at the Orsay
and find a way to cram it all in before we drink hard again
Let's get a bottle and drink alone tonight
Let's get a bottle and drink alone tonight
'This light looks good on you,'morning came early.
Sitting on a park bench that's older than my country
Two star hotel
near St. Germain.
Two star hotel
Where the stars don't mean anything.
I just watched a trainwreck of a Depeche Mode concert.
She Wants Revenge might be the most boring opening band I've ever seen. Like seriously worse than Dredg or P.O.D. as far as openers go.
But anyways, I got to hear about 5 really fucking awesome DM songs with Dave singing. Then Martin sang a couple while I wondered where Dave disappeared to. Then, Martin said there were some technical difficulties so he sang another song, then some roadie came out and got everyone riled up saying they were going to cancel the show then and there.
Well, the tour manager (I assume) came out and said Dave was having a medical problem (he actually said "It's not something that we're not used to dealing with.") and wouldn't be returning, but Martin would do a few more.
And more he did give, and I suddenly remember that Martin Gore has an absolute GORGEOUS voice.
But then it was over and everyone else was pissed and leaving. I just hope that Dave is okay and not a pretentious twat that would waste hundreds of peoples' money, all of whom spent over $40 per ticket. Unless of course, those people were like me and had free tickets backed by Sprint.
And damn. Yesterday was Dave's 44th birthday too.
I can't wait to find out what my friend and superduper DM fan extraordinaire Jen has to say about this. She got to meet the band before the show and I caught her and her lovely wife Shawn right after. She was ecstatic over a picture they got with Dave where he was sandwiched between them.
Either way, no Personal Jesus for Courtney. Alas.
Posted by Courtney at 11:10 PM | Comments (2)And another trip to Tahlequah has come and gone.
Highlights include (in chronological order):
-Swerving off of Highway 51 to avoid a deer. Twice.
-Shawnee & Cedar
-Mmm. Hmm. I see a ghost. I swear, it had to be a ghost.
-Dana drunkenly hugging me then claiming to have knocked up multiple women.
-Drinking a Red Stripe with a chocolate chip cookie. It's better than you'd think.
-Seeing two of my closest friends graduate with their Education and Computer Science degrees, respectively.
-Getting to see Carrie Underwood graduate. That was kind of neat.
-Rain. Lots of fucking rain.
-Snocones and pizza with Sam.
-Running around Murrell Home Park with no one else there in the rain.
-Literally running around Murrell Home Park trail because I'm scared of being there by myself during the day.
-Not being able to get past level 2 of Super Mario Bros 3 even after 22 tries between Dana, Emily and myself.
-Braums.
I got to swing at the park

And here are some pics of the trail:

::Mobile photos: Murrell Home Park, Tahlequah, OK
I also have a video of what it looks like when I swing, but I really won't bore you with that.
Posted by Courtney at 09:48 PM | Comments (1)Who gets to go see Depeche Mode for free, and sit in an Orchestra section tomorrow night?
THIS GIRL.
Posted by Courtney at 08:40 PM | Comments (0)I love the newest Snow Patrol single not only because it's an amazing catchy love song, but because it finally tells me how to say fucking Sufjan Stevens' name correctly.
Suf Yawn.
I guess I could have just looked it up somewhere, since, ya know, this is the internet after all.
Off to Tahlequah for the weekend. 6pt beer for all!
Posted by Courtney at 02:23 PM | Comments (0)Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
Keaton is probably annoyed because I've listened to the same song 4 times in a row now, but I have a good excuse. Listening to this song is like falling in love for the first time over and over again. I even get a little lightheaded. I keep catching my breath. I just look up and smile.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
And 5 songs in it is more than I could have hoped for. It's fantastic, especially track 4.
Posted by Courtney's Phone at 12:00 PMI think the only major fault I have is that there are very few lengths I would go for someone to like me. And the worse I get treated, the more willing I am to just again get treated like shit.
It's kinda like constantly opening the door and then still running head first into it.
And the door is wood.
And coated with steel.
And has giant nails sticking out of it.
And the nails are covered in Ebola.
Well...you get the picture.
