At this moment in time the only thing I want to do is ask my little sister if she listens to Broken Social Scene.
I've been sitting here listening to "Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl" and it makes me miss her. Not as much as listening to Bowie's "Rebel, Rebel" does though.
Of course, the lyrics are coming up...
Used to be one of the rotten ones and he liked you for that.
Used to be one of the rotten ones and he liked you for that.
Used to be one of the rotten ones and he liked you for that.
Now you're all gone got your make-up on and you're not coming back.
Can't you come back?
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that.
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that.
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that.
Now you're all gone got your make-up on and you're not coming back.
Bleaching your teeth, smiling flash, talking trash, under your breath.
Bleaching your teeth, smiling flash, talking trash, under your breath.
Bleaching your teeth, smiling flash, talking trash, under your breath.
Bleaching your teeth, smiling flash, talking trash, under my window.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
Park that car, drop that phone.
Park that car, drop that phone. (dream about me)
Park that car, drop that phone.
Park that car, drop that phone. (dream about me)
Park that car, drop that phone.
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that.
Now you're all gone got your make-up on and you're not coming back.
So. Yeah.
I survived Austin, barely. If you know me, you've probably already heard how I insist I could have died.
I came home to snow.
It's my last week of being able to come home for lunch, which makes me sad.
I don't have the money to eat out for lunch, and also I'm going to have to get up earlier for work and spend longer driving there, which means if I want to take food with me I'll be getting up a lot earlier than I want.
My tongue hurts. I think I overextended it. It's bad because apparently I lick my lips a lot, which I never noticed until I almost screamed in pain everytime I tried to do it.
Ants also attempted a coup on my kitchen Friday night which I squashed and am keeping a careful eye on future attempts.
My dishwasher just decided to hate me and spewed soapy water all over the floor. Argh.
It's been one of those days. For now, I'm going to sit back and listen to some music, drink a gin and tonic and then make some dinner. I'm thinking baked chicken tonight.

Posted by Courtney at 12:47 AM | Comments (0)Seriously, if you're not in love with What Made Milwaukee Famous yet, then take a moment and visit their MySpace page and do it.
I'm alive, well and moderately sober. All my pics are going to be in a flickr set, but they're all super touristy.
Posted by Courtney at 06:21 PM | Comments (0)I should be packed and in bed for my early flight.
And I am neither.
What I am is totally getting down in my kitchen while listening to the extended mix of Ferry Corsten's "Rock Your Body Rock."
I remember the first time I danced to this song, in early 04. I wish I could remember the name of the place in Tulsa though. It was wherever I saw Bad Boy Bill and I think Turk light his decks on fire with Dana.
I'm so 'ardcore dnb darkness most of the time. It's really hard for me to come about and embrace my past as a dirty little candy kid.
But then sometimes, a track hits winamp and it takes me back, and here I am in sushi pajama pants all liquid dancing and shit in my kitchen.
I miss the not caring and just moving how the music made me. I recently caught up with my old partner in crime Cat and she mentioned a "massive" out in LA she had been to since she now lives in California. I think up until that point I had forgotten what fun it all was. It probably doesn't hurt that one of my best friends here is one of the most awesome dancers I've seen, and tends to glide around to make me laugh.
Keaton thinks I'm crazy, but then again I probably am.
But I think you just need to dance around in your underwear to Rock Your Body Rock.
Posted by Courtney at 09:25 PM | Comments (0)Thursday morning I am going to get up bright and early to catch a flight to Austin, TX.
Itinerary:
Thursday, March 16 - KANSAS CITY INTL(MCI) to DALLAS LOVE FIELD(DAL)
Depart KANSAS CITY INTL(MCI) at 6:45AM and
Arrive in DALLAS LOVE FIELD(DAL) at 8:25AM
Depart DALLAS LOVE FIELD(DAL) at 10:40AM and
Arrive in AUSTIN TX(AUS) at 11:30AM
Alas, this year there will be no skydiving, and the weather looks like it could be dreary, but Bryan has an xbox and an awesome kitchen and tres leches cake, so no matter what this trip will be awesome.
My new baby gets to make the trip with me to keep me all sorts of entertained, complete with the full Arctic Monkeys cd and 2 Daft Punk cds. For some reason it threw my Death Cab Plans cd at the very end instead of with Transatlanticism.

My friends are better than yours.
PS. Even though she's got a lot of Mneme, I'm calling her Aoide. heh. I hope I'm not the only one who laughed at that.
Welp, that about sums it up.
Tonight, we go again.
And at midnight, once it is finally March 12th, I will be 22.
Also, it is the birthday of my friend Gena, and the waitress we had last night. It's obviously a popular day.
To survival, maturity and security; Fuck em. It's party time.
The rest of the pics are here.
Contrary to popular belief, my birthday is NOT March 10th. Close, but no cake. Apparently we're having my birthday party on the 11th though. Yay.
I start my new position at work tomorrow. I'm very excited.
Also, I intend to be moving to Lenexa/Olathe in a few months. I don't want to commute to work on a major highway (read anything with "35" in it) and Keaton and I will be working about 2 miles apart, basically just on opposite North/South sides of the JC Penney Distro Center off Lackman. We want something in that area, but under the condition that in no case can it be an apartment. It needs 2 bedrooms, more kitchen counter space than we currently have (1 3'x2' area) and be under $800/month. Currently I think we can go Quivira to Ridgeview, 87th to 127th, in that big rectangle. We looked at one townhome that was really borderline ghetto, but had a fantastic kitchen. I think we're both ready to move up to renting a house though.
Today we met up with Jon, Megan, and lil 2nd trimester for lunch and a movie. I finally got to use the gift card Tricia got me for Christmas and watched 16 Blocks. Typical Bruce Willis movie. My only complaint is that I love Mos Def, and his role had me so annoyed I wanted to scream. Can't win em all.
If I listen to Transatlanticism one more time I'm gonna cry, so it's time to shower and do some laundry.
the atlantic was born today and i'll tell you how:
the clouds above opened up and let it out.
I was standing on the surface of a perforated sphere
when the water filled every hole.
and thousands upon thousands made an ocean,
making islands where no island should go.
oh no.
those people were overjoyed; they took to their boats.
I thought it less like a lake and more like a moat.
the rhythm of my footsteps crossing flood lands to your door have been silenced forever more.
the distance is quite simply much too far for me to row
it seems farther than ever before
oh no.
I need you so much closer
I need you so much closer
I need you so much closer
I need you so much closer

These are presented during the Winter Music Conference in Miami which is the 24-28th this month in Miami.
My friend, the man, the myth and the motherfucking legend AJ and his crew Evol Intent have a track in the running for best Breaks/DnB this year, "Street Knowledge."
Go check the track over at their myspace site or go download this clip over on the 404 Audio dubs list.
This song takes some of the best gangsta rap clips out there and creates a smashed up sound that's not quite as dirty and surreal as their hard hitters, but get the full track around 1:50 and it would tear up any floor.
Voting is only open until the 17th and covers 36 other categories, so get on up.

He was never drafted into the NBA, but he saw UNC thru 4 great years starting and is all over the Euroleague now.
I've been a Tarheels fan for years. No matter what, at some point during each game I'm pretty sure Keaton always has to hear me say "but he's no Ed Cota."

btw, it seems to only want to load the image half the time.
Oh well.
Also, I checked my site on my phone and hated how long it took to scroll through the menu, so I just threw it all into a drop down menu so all wouldn't have to look at all those months. Apparently I'm averaging somewhere around 10 posts a month. I could obviously do better.
