Oh! I almost forgot! I drug Jason out to The Bottleneck in Lawrence last night to catch Stereophonics and Augustana.
Unfortunately, Stereophonics didn't play the older stuff that I'm in love with (and that's less rock and roll and bluesy loudness, but more basic chords and great lyrics and quieter). However, they came out like they were fucking rockstars and played the whole set like that, and it was just completely awesome. I loved it. Loved it loved it loved it.
I don't think Jason really like Stereophonics, because he is old and they are loud, but I'm pretty certain we both really dug Augustana. I would definitely recommend checking out their music to anyone that likes well...some decent rock with some decent vocals. I'm sitting here streaming their song Stars and Boulevards off their myspace site and falling even more in love.
It was my first trip to Lawrence and I loved the place. I guess growing up in a small college town, and always hanging out in the small kitschy areas around the colleges in Tulsa, I've really missed the atmopshere that surrounds the bars and venues and clothing stores that comes with the 20 somethings. Now that I know my way to the Granada and Bottleneck, I'll constantly be recruiting for all the little shows I want to see there.
Oh yes, and I would also like to thank Mr. mid 30s ex frat boy in the white sweater drunk on $2.25 rolling rock for his amazing beer bottle guitar during Stereophonic's second song. It was like, awesome, dude.
Posted by Courtney at 03:40 PM | Comments (0)My mom wouldn't let me watch the music video for Melissa Etheridge's I'm The Only One when it came out (heehee!). One time my older cousin was over and we were in the living room watching VH1 (Tahlequah didn't have MTV at this point) and it came on. She talked to me afterwards and was all jumpy and off and "You know I don't want you watching that video!"
And the whole ordeal just seems funny to me now. I highly doubt that video was the reason I like to occasionally kiss girls (that's generally the gin-heh), especially since I don't think I ever paid attention to it. I can't recall anything from it other than that it had a bleach bypass look to it. Leave it to the dork in me to remember the processing style, but not any actual content.
But yes, Random Courtney Fact #1. My mommy tried to shield me from the evils of lesbianism when I was 11.
Posted by Courtney at 03:00 PM | Comments (1)Ok, even though we all know I'm a Church of Lazlo 96.5 whore as it is, I've gotta say, hearing Sour Times by Portishead on there earlier today just made my year.
Kthx!
Met Suzi McDumbitch last night as well. Very good to meet her, and to also meet the infamous (and shaggy-rawr!) Chronic.
Numerous options of activities for this evening. I just want one that involves beer.
In my attempt to get everyone and everything paid off as quickly as possible and then build up some extra money for trips I want to take within the next year, I've got a part time job that I'm starting on Wednesday. I'll be in the mall schlepping expensive clothing to women who want more expensive clothing on their husband's dime. I'll work 24-25 hours a week there.
Working said 25 hours is seriously going to inhibit my summer activities. I'll work almost every Monday, Wednesday & Friday night from 6-9, and then every Saturday from 9:45 to 6 (I expect some visitors for my lunch hour from 12-1, BD's and Outback and On the Border and Friday's and Chipotle are right there kids!) and then Sundays from 10:45 to 6.
I'm not completely excited at the thought of working 65 hours a week, but I am looking forward to not being sedentary(hee!) and getting a chance to do sales again, considering sometime in the future I'd like to head that way with my main job. I also figure, Keaton has worked long hours the whole time we've been together to make a considerable amount of more money than me. Since he's finally getting a chance to live with a normal schedule, I thought it best to not have complimenting schedules, but work my fucking ass off in an attempt to get as much money as possible while I could stand to do the extra work.
That, and I kinda bought that car last month and it stole my soul.
Oh yeah, and if you find a spare cup of gelato, send it to Andrea, she could use it.

JUNKIE XL- LIVE – Amsterdam, Netherlands
JXL, www.radiojxl.com
Unlike some electronic acts who add little scraps of guitar or rock bands who incorporate simple samples, Amsterdam’s JUNKIE XL, with their phat beats, hip hop flow and monster riffage, he not only blurs the lines of live music and samples – he literally sets the standard for all to follow. Born in the Netherlands, to a musical family, he calls himself a "master alchemist, electronic daredevil and breaker of sound barriers". We know him as the rogue scientist who electrified 'the King' and, via a multi-million dollar ad campaign, introduced Elvis music to the dance generation. Had it not been for Presley's worldwide smash, "A Little Less Conversation", few outside clubland would know of Dutch producer-come-artist Tom Holkenburg. And despite his resume including co-producing Sasha's acclaimed Airdrawndagger album, working with Brazilian rockers Sepultura, and touring with the Prodigy, it'll forever be his skills at making hips gyrate from beyond the grave that will be his milestone.
BT - LIVE – LA, CA
Black Hole Recordings, Kinetic Records, Nettwerk, www.btmusic.com
"BT mounts mesmerizing journeys with his compositions. He is not only a virtuoso programmer, but an extremely gifted musician..." Peter Gabriel speaking to the LA Times. Whether he's crafting perfect pop hooks with *NSYNC, composing intricate scores with eighty-piece orchestras for films like The Fast and the Furious, collaborating with Sting on a track from his forthcoming album, or remixing emotional and languid epics for Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, Madonna or Seal, BT consistently balances creative and memorable songwriting, sonic innovation, and the latest technology for a cutting-edge, yet organic sound. BT, born Brian Transeau, grew up outside Washington D.C. where the first evidence of his musical talent manifested as mastery of composers such as Chopin and Bach by age six. A great break in musical direction came when he heard electronic music as an adolescent. BT's mix of epic and classically inspired journeys and beats quickly took on the name Trance, and became one of the most popular and dominant electronic music genres played in clubs from London to Tokyo and New York. "To marry melody, harmony and memorable songwriting with the most bleeding-edge technology possible is my passion. These are the things that excite me."
BAD BOY BILL – Chicago, IL
System, Beatport, Mix Connection, www.badboybill.com
"America's no. 1 Favorite DJ" (BPM Magazine 2003), Bill is a favorite amongst dance-music fans world-wide. He eventually became a household name as a DJ on Chicago’s B96, using his “Bad Boy Bill” audio ID as a way of distinguishing himself from the other DJs on the radio. Spinning the crowd into a dancing frenzy is Bill's motivation. "My DJ style originated with the idea to remix a song live with two copies of the same record and then combine scratching and hip-hop techniques with house grooves." Bill says. "The payoff for me is seeing people dancing and having a great time during my set.”
STEVE SMOOTH – Chicago
Moody Recordings, IHR, Motus Music, www.stevesmooth.com
Born and raised on Chicago's Southside, Steve Smooth first entered the dance music scene starting out at a record store and then a Chicago based independent record label, he became immersed in the house music culture. As a dj, Steve worked to perfect his style of mixing, hitting the Chicago club circuit. This, along with Guest appearances on several college radio stations helped to gain him recognition, eventually leading to a frequent guest spot on the Sunday mix show, "The Street Flava," which aired on Chicago's largest radio station B96 (96.3 FM). But that's not all; in addition to producing, Steve is maintaining an impressive DJ schedule. This past year alone he took his skills as a DJ and sound to over 100 shows including UK, Germany, Spain, Hong Kong, Canada, and North and South Americas as well as his DJ residency at Avalon NYC once a month.
HIVE – San Fran, CA
Violence Recordings, Circle
Celebrated on both sides of the Atlantic, it’s in the unassuming personality of futurist B-boy Hive that drum and bass finds its mightiest bridge between the UK and the US. His tracks have become staples of virtually all of drum and bass’ legends, from Andy C to Goldie, and make regular appearances on Grooverider’s Radio 1 program--on which Hive’s towering “Neo” track spent weeks at number. Tough, propulsive, forged out of both the traditional sampled aesthetic and leading sound designs of contemporary drum and bass, the sound of Hive today bears the imprint of an artist searching for new ways to reinterpret the music by his own lights. Neither a retrospective purist, nor a follower of fashion, Hive’s music, his DJing, and his label strike a steely, inspiring balance, hewing closely to a tight creative vision that has propelled him into the forefront of drum and bass wherever it thrives.

I've been a very bad Courtney :(
I broke my pretty pretty shiny red Sanyo 2300 and the poor people at the Town Center Sprint store couldn't fix it.
However, that means Courtney got a brand spanking new Sanyo 5600.
1.3 megapixel camera, built in mp3 player and a pretty little slot for a miniSD card anyone? Did I also mention it has the best sound I've ever heard from a cell phone?
Booyah.
However, I was so afraid they were going to sell the phone (only one they had in stock apparently) that I didn't let them keep it until tomorrow so they could transfer my phone book.
So please, if you have my phone number, please either send me a text message saying who you are, or email me what your phone number is so I can build my address book back up.
Hell, do it if you don't even have my number. I'm known for my drunk dialing. You never know what you might get if I have your number.
Posted by Courtney at 10:21 PM | Comments (0)Two of the most amazing, wonderful, caring, beautiful people I know are finally one step closer to being married.
Congratulations Adam & JoLynn.
You're both fucking awesome.
I could go on and on about how great they both are and how Adam's been like the big brother figure in my life in the past and a huge source of accountability and how JoLynn has been the most compassionate, interested person I've known since the moment I met her, but the details to those thoughts I really like keeping to myself.
I can't think of two people who compliment each other better.
Posted by Courtney at 10:35 PM | Comments (1)Woo. Got drug down to Beaumont for the 2nd night this week.
Thursday night I got to meet up with Raysa, Jen, Shawn and a lot of other girls whose names I don't remember (I'm lying, I'm remember Olivia and Jill's names too now.) at McCoy's for a bit before we all headed over to the Mindless Self Indulgence show.
We got there somewhere near the beginning of their set, not sure how far though because they had stopped playing so they could throw two assholes out of the building. Although the crowd was fairly high school girls and their loser post high school no job but lots of weed boyfriends, it was a fun mess to be in. Since MSI isn't exactly radio material, everyone there knew all the lyrics and sang along to every song. It made Faggot and Bitches three times as awesome.
MSI was a great live band, they knew how to have fun and Jimmy leans on a lot of smart ass one liners throughout the set. He walked all over the place and through the crowd and even brought out his video camera to capture it all. I'm glad I finally got to see them after being a huge fan since Mark made me a mix cd with Faggot and I Hate Jimmy Page on it in 01.
And let me tell you, Jen does a mean wet dog impression. Can't wait to hang out with those girls again, especially since I owe Raysa and Jen $10 in drinks.
Last night I drug Keaton back down there to catch Penumbra. The lead singer is a friend of a friend that I happen to work with, and I'd heard the songs from their demo and loved it. We got there, I had a vodka tonic forced on me, I met some of Eric's friends, Scott finally showed up and we all suffered through some shitty band from Wichita called 4 King Stud.
Honestly, I haven't loved a local band this much since Upside (We'll get into how much I miss being in the local music scene some other day). Penumbra just fucking rocks and everything just falls to place with them. It was a great show full of great music. I really don't know what else to say other than that. Reminds of a lot of good rock bands out now, especially since Brett's voice can go from Chad Gray to Jonny Santos like nothing.
And seriously, who goes to a small concert in a bar wearing their wedding dress or bridesmaids dresses? That was just weird.
And now due to all this rocking in my life, I'm gonna run and get some sonic snack meal for lunch and listen to my Ciara cd. I'm so lame sometimes. That's why you love me.

Posted by Courtney at 01:06 PM | Comments (1)I'm really tired of this, and everything for awhile. I also plan on being fairly busy in the near future. I'm just sick of having no one and nothing and sitting here bored night after night. It just makes me hateful, of everyone else and of myself, of being here. I'm finally stagnant in life. And I HATE it. There's nothing new coming in, and everything old has completely gone. Some of the reasons I held previously are gone, so it's time for me to go seek out new ones. There's got to be a balance of myself and others that I can find somewhere that will make existing like this okay.
But waking up everyday knowing I'm going to work until 5:30, come home and wait for Keaton to get home around 9, just to go to sleep at 11, and feel set in this routine is not what I want. Luckily, Keaton will be getting home at the same time as I will soon. However, he alone is not enough and too much. I can't rely on just him.
Time to find something new for myself.
Today is not your day, love.
Posted by Courtney at 01:34 PM | Comments (9)And I'm posting at 11pm on a Friday night. Woo!
I need more friends and more money. Let's try and work on at least half of that.
Oh, and a couple more episodes of law and order wouldn't hurt. I've been watching it since 6pm...like I always do.
Other than that, I'm completely lost at the moment. I've dozed off throughout the night while watching tv and it has given me this weird "am I really awake?" state.
In the mean time, I'm going to read and going to write some more.

--Oh, and because this doesn't deserve it's own entry. Even though I loved the drag show and hanging out with my beautiful ladies, and falling in love with the most gorgeous king ever...I saw the most awesome thing ever beforehand.
As Megan was just making her way north on 69 (heh.) we passed a minivan...driven by a large clown with a big red nose and huge neon orange hair. This clown to be exact.
And now, all I can think about is, was she driving with the clown shoes on? And does that hinder breaking? Or acceleration? We passed her and she was invisible in no time, and we were only doing 65.
I fucking hate clowns.
This is the kind of stuff that keeps me up at night kids.

I'm done with Sergio
He treats me like a ragdoll
She hides
The television
Says I don't owe him nothing,
But if he comes back again
Tell him to wait right here for me

Gonna kick tomorrow

Have you seen my wig around?
I feel naked without it
She knows
They all want her to go
But that's O.K. man
She dont like them anyway

She's goin away to spain
When she gets my money saved
I'm gonna start tomorrow

She cant hit
She don't mean no harm
She just don't know

She waits
And gets her dinner there
She pulls her dinner

Posted by Courtney at 09:53 PM | Comments (1)So I have nothing interesting to say. Yesterday was stressful. I still can't believe a dog ran into my car. Oh well.
So, I have this friend. This friend likes to go by the name Chronic for the obvious reasons. He also provides my wayward entertainment when I'm bored. He also constantly complains that only a couple people read his lame blogspot site.*
http://www.chronicsperspective.blogspot.com/
So there. Go. Read. Be in disbelief. Reread the story. Then laugh and be glad you aren't him, or secretly wish you were.
*And yes, I am only being this lame in an attempt to get him to write more.
Posted by Courtney at 08:04 AM | Comments (1)Last night we had Keaton's birthday party.
I...
...had over 20 jello shots.
...spilled a large gin and tonic all over Jason's kitchen.
...agreed to go to a drag show this next weekend with the girls.
...saw some video of 2 very hot pairs of boobies.
...met Sheri and Tony, very awesome. (Hi!)
...found out Eric might give the best backrubs.
...saw a drunk girl in her underwear.
...read all the stories in William Gibson's Burning Chrome.
...was one of 30 people making rotel cheese dip.
...told someone I didn't think he was a good friend. :/
...talked Flaming Lips with Andrea.
...let JoLynn take pictures of my cleavage. Yes just the cleavage!
...actually had Ryan show up.
...had Tricia show up after Ryan left, furthering suspicion they are the same person.
...spent more time than usual talking to Adam, much needed.
...barely realized there was a poker game going on.
...apparently helped get Christina drunk by shoving jello shots at her. Sorry shawn :(
...had aforementioned rotel cheese dip dripped on my hair by Eric.
...at some point wrapped my legs around Lake when I was sitting on a table.
...was given lessons on what to do when stopped by a cop by Eric.
...curled up on Jason's loveseat with my big Keaton to try and sleep.
...let JoLynn get a video of my thong and ass crack on an exercise ball.
If this keeps up, one of us is going to have to get a very big house. However, the dynamics are quite different now than they were when the the jello shot insanity first started. From what I recall, there was only one person there last night not paired up with someone else, and as always I was so excited to see him that I kept him contained (and entertained) as much as possible. Le sigh. If only Megan wouldn't have had to cancel; Eric's damn near perfect!
On another note, I'm about $150 short of being able to make rent. Life is getting very dark and very dreary. I'm trying to find a part time job as it is to try and get extra money to take care all of the random little bills I have so I can hopefully start school this fall. Anyone want to loan me something until then? I'm going to go cry and sleep now. It's totally not worth it anymore.
