I've now officially been a resident of the KC area for 6 months, today.
I still don't know where to get some decent queso.
I just want to thank everyone who made the first 6 months here possible, fun, and incredibly scary. 6 more months and years more to come hopefully.
However, I've failed to explore the majority of anything here. Anyone got any ideas on the things I should do to fill the next 6 months in KC ? Of course we've got the obvious, like going to Nelson-Atkins, and the not so obvious, like finding the perfect bacon and egg breakfast. What else is there? What am I really missing?
I need something to make me really fall in love with where I am, not another 30 screen or American Eagle. I might accept another Chipotle though.

Are you serious? Jose Pepper's has pretty good queso for a chain. I'd snorkel in it.
Posted by: m.toast at December 28, 2004 03:15 PMI went there once with Adam/Alex before I moved here. I don't remember the queso but my enchilada sucked.
Posted by: Courtney at December 28, 2004 05:10 PMThat's why you need to come down and have El Charro with me and Chris. Or if you want queso, El Zarape.
Posted by: Shannon at December 28, 2004 10:26 PMcongrats on the 6 months thing & good luck find good queso or whatever?
Posted by: joey at December 29, 2004 03:49 AMEl Zarape > El Charro
Posted by: Robert at December 29, 2004 10:50 AMMi Cocina on the Plaza is a good one too. They make everything from scratch.
Posted by: m.toast at December 29, 2004 12:03 PMI've been in the entry way to Mi Cocina, then everyone ran up to the bar to buy some guy a drink and try to get their name on the list for that night and I had to sit by the revolving door all sad and without queso.
Posted by: Courtney at December 29, 2004 12:40 PMRobert.... El Charro has a much better beef steak ranchero. Otherwise, I do like El Zarape's queso much better.
Posted by: shannon at December 29, 2004 01:51 PMI was always too afraid to eat at the mexican places in Tahlequah. You know, actually, Goldie's and Bandito's are the only "restaurants" in town I've been to...unless Sam and Ella's counts.
Posted by: Courtney at December 29, 2004 04:18 PMMan, you were missing out.

Posted by: Courtney at December 30, 2004 05:29 PMSample the Corner Cafe in Westport for your bacon/egg breakfast. Shop at the City Market for plants/fruits/veggies early on a Saturday morning. Eat at Minsky's on Main for pizza and shop at the Plaza after dinner. Bike the vast trail system, visit the Kemper, shop at Temple Slug, see a performance at the Midland at least once, find the 2 Frank Lloyd Wright houses in KC, shop Brookside, see a theater performance at UMKC, try Ponak's on SW blvd for that queso, I seem to recall it's quite tasty.
Posted by: Victoria at December 30, 2004 07:40 PMCorner Cafe and Minksy's I've done with you and Alex when Bryan came up for 4th of July. I think I've been to the city market. I believe that's where I fell in love with a bunch of young italian butchers. I recall that I absolutely loved Minksy's. Everything else I'm gonna have to google.
